As we travel thru the Gulf Coast, we spent some time in Biloxi, MS. This is our second time in Biloxi and it didn’t disappoint.
Styx – Dennis DeYoung
Biloxi has a strip of casinos along the coast and the Hard Rock Casino was hosting a concert for Dennis DeYoung! He has his own band who look like members of Styx and they sound just like Styx from the ’70s! Patti and I had dinner at Ruth’s Chris in the casino (our favorite steak place) and went to the concert. It was amazing!!! They did every song from the Grand Illusion album and then the most popular songs from other albums as well. We felt like we were back in the ’70s and had a great time!
Restaurants
Biloxi have the standard chain restaurants but Patti and I like to experiment and go to local restaurants that have a unique menu and theme.
Mary Mahoney’s Old French House
We have been to this restaurant before but it is always a treat to go and have a great dinner. This place has a unique history and survived major hurricanes. It has unique seafood dishes, my favorite is the “sisters of the sea au gratin”. This is served in 2 separate “en coquille” dishes with lump crab meat in one and shrimp in the other with both smothered in a cheese cream sauce. Absolutely awesome! On another note, just outside of the restaurant (which is in one of the oldest homes in the south, built in 1737) is a massive tree that is over 2000 years old. Another great time at Mary Mahoney’s.
White House Hotel – Cora’s Restaurant
We finally found a great breakfast place in Biloxi – Cora’s restaurant! They specialize in a brunch that features… Mimosas! A very unique menu that have the standard breakfast fare and unique breakfast seafood dishes. We both had Cora’s breakfast that simply had bacon, eggs, potatoes and toast. Everything had a unique taste and was excellent. The hotel itself was unique and they were setting up for a wedding that morning! Will definitely do this again!
Another great stay in Biloxi and it remains one of our favorite spots to visit. Speaking of favorite spots…..
