The Funk Family
We met the Funks over 30 years ago when they needed help starting a church in Indiana. Many changes took place for both families since that time but we remained very close and we love them like family.
They have 3 great kids and we have watched them grow up over the years. Each of them have families and they work very hard. However a very special shout out to their youngest – Brittany:
Brittany works as a nurse at a hospital in Fort Wayne, IN. During these critical times, she works on the COVID-19 floor – on the front lines. This doesn’t surprise us as she is a very strong, independent woman who isn’t afraid of anything (although when she was little, she was just a little weird which caused several arguments between her and I).
This also means Brittany can’t be with her son Daniel because she is in the middle of taking care of the sickest during this pandemic. So not only is she putting herself in harms way to help patients defeat this virus, she is also sacrificing her time with her son. She is in our prayers but we know she is strong and will come thru these trying times even stronger. Daniel loves superheroes like Spiderman, Hulk, etc.. Now he can add his Mom to his superhero collection. At the very least, she is our superhero.
Key West!
So while Patti and I were in Florida, Greg and Jamie wanted to come out and visit. They flew into Sarasota and the next day we drove 6 hours to Key West! It was a great time. We shared a nice suite and enjoyed the sites and restaurants the area had to offer:
We did the typical Key West stuff like visit the Southern Most point and of course visit Marilyn.
We ate at some unique restaurants and spent some time at the pool. Greg bought me some cigars which I enjoyed immensely and overall it was a great time.
- Antonia’s Restaurant – best Italian in Key West!
- El Meson De Pepe’s Restaurant – best Cuban restaurant!
- Rooftop Cafe – Overlooking Mallory Square!
Oh and Patti made a new friend:
Epcot!
Of course while in Florida, you have to visit Epcot! Unfortunately there was a lot of construction at the park but we were able to do what we wanted:
- Soarin’ Around the World
- Living with the Land
- The Seas with Nemo & Friends (my favorite)
- The American Adventure
We had lunch at Greg’s favorite place – Teppan Edo in Japan.
We had dinner at one of my favorite places – Rose & Crown in England. I have my Fish & Chips with Harp beer. Excellent combination!
Sarasota
After all of that, we spent the rest of their time at the pool in Sarasota. The RV resort we stayed at was the Sun N Fun in Sarasota:
Sarasota is famous for its restaurants in St. Armands Circle and we took Greg and Jamie to the best:
- Shore – Ahi Tuna filet was amazing!
- Crab & Fin – best all around seafood in Sarasota
Of course the girls had to hit the beach:
Sadly Greg and Jamie had to go back home. It was a great time and we miss them already. The timing was perfect because Florida shut everything down the following week.
While in Sarasota, we had another special visitor – Patti’s boss, Cindy, from Awana! She happened to be in the area and made a special trip to stop by and see us! Cindy, her friend, and Patti enjoyed a great outdoor lunch at St. Armand’s Square and even took in a little window shopping! Thanks Cindy for the visit!
Also while in Sarasota, we enjoyed visits with Patti’s sister and family who have a home in nearby Arcadia. We celebrated two birthdays together and spent weekend days at the pool, enjoying lunches and exploring the area! It’s always a blessing to spend time with them!
Quarantined in an RV…. In Florida!
So if you had to be quarantined, what better way to do it than in Florida in an RV! Of course we couldn’t go to restaurants or go to a beach, but our locations were ideal:
On a serious note, Patti and I stay in the RV during the lockdown and only go out to the grocery store or to pick up food at restaurants. When we do go to a grocery store or anything crowded we wear masks and try to practice social distancing. So we are being as safe as we can be. Fortunately, RV parks and RV service centers are deemed as “essential” so we haven’t had any issues.
Our next stop is Nashville but I won’t post anything because of the lockdown. We will be in Illinois mid-May to see family and friends!
So keep safe and hopefully the lockdowns will end soon and we can get slowly back to our “normal” life!
I sure hope to see you soon! Stay healthy and safe!
Patti can’t wait to see you as well. Perhaps with the lockdown, you can come and visit us?
So maybe we will see you at Sycamore RV? We plan to be there soon. Stay safe and God Bless ❣️
Hello! Definitely will see you in Sycamore. Will be there in a couple of weeks. You stay safe as well, can’t wait to see you guys!
