One of the big Newmar features was the Oasis Hydronic Heating System. This systems heats a special fluid that is routed thru the coach to specific heating fans which is what heats the coach. It is also used for continuous hot water! The hot water feature works very well as we have had the dishwasher, shower and washing machine going at the same time and still had hot water!! The way they do this is using diesel fuel to “heat” a fire box for the fluid. It works very well and is much more efficient than propane.
So sorry for the long story but this post is all about maintaining the Oasis unit. The annual service requires a replacement of several major parts and cleaning the fuel nozzle. A detailed video is below:
I am not mechanically inclined but gave this a try anyway. And after doing this maintenance, the procedure was not bad at all. I had no problems and it fired up on the first try. This video was perfect and right on target in performing the maintenance. One caution – the video shows a very clean unit, mine wasn’t. It had carbon everywhere which makes sense since it is burning diesel fuel. I simply cleaned it out with some rags and had no problems!
I found the annual service kit on Amazon so you can get everything you need to perform this service:
All in all I am glad I did this and I know I saved some money doing it! Note – I have talked to some Newmar dealers and most of them don’t perform this service. However this was easy! If I can do it, you can do it!
I found it very helpful. I wonder if you can guide me in the set up of the oasis in my Newmar coach. Its a 2014, I just bought it and no one seems to know how it really works., Other than turning the button light turns green and that’s it. But there has to be some other settings such as summer setting when the heat not being used but I want hot water. I Noticed that my system is running even when I don’t use the hot water and my thermostat has the furnace on off.
Also there is a black control box next to the green unit with a switch on top, they tell me that the switch needs to be in the off position but when I do this I get no hot water.
Also it has 2 heat zones but zone 2 blows cold air .
Any suggestions
Hello Mike,
You have a couple of things happening….
So there is no summer setting or anything. Turning the system on (green light) will start the system and you will hear the diesel part heat up the boiler tank. Think of this as a steam boiler in an old building. Doesn’t matter if the heat is on or your not using the hot water. The system will always keep the boiler at a certain temperature.
The black control box is for the “pumps” for the heating zones and hot water. The system comes with 3 loops for the fluid from the boiler and each loop has a pump. Loop 1 & 2 is for heating zone 1 & 2. The 3rd loop (called the “Summer loop”) is for hot water when the other zones are not running. The black switch at the top of the control box is a “diagnostic” switch that turns all of the pumps on no matter what the settings are. If zone 2 blows cold air and the water is not hot, more than likely those pumps are not working. You can take the cover off of the control box to see if any fuses are blown, but it seems the pumps need to be replaced.
Hope that helps and good luck!
