We made another trip to Nashville and it was just as great and unique as our previous time there.
Charlie Daniels Band!
So we had tickets to the Grand Ole Opry and it was amazing! We had seats that were close but off to the side (as the pictures will demonstrate), but still an amazing time! I like how they have several acts in one night so there is a variety of talent and music:
- Riders in the Sky
- Jameson Rodgers – Opry Debut!
- Jeannie Seely
- The SteelDrivers
- TG Sheppard
- Chondra Pierce – Comedian
- Charlie Daniels Band
As you can see, there was a multitude of talent. Each act spent about 20 minutes on stage and there was an intermission. The night was also broadcast on 650 AM WSM radio!
Of course the main attraction was Charlie Daniels! He did several songs including “Devil Went Down to Georgia” that brought the house down. He sounded just like he did in the 70’s. He also did something that was awesome. He had all of the veterans stand up and he thanked them personally. He took the time to talk about our great country and the sacrifices our veterans make. It was a great moment!
The Standard
Of course we went to Broadway Street to hear some great music in the various honky tonks. However we wanted a good dinner and we found “The Standard”. This restaurant was awesome and a great experience. The Smith House is the only grand townhouse remaining in downtown Nashville. Built in the late 1840’s, it is a magnificent example of ante-bellum Italianate architecture. With six bedrooms and bathrooms on three floors, two parlors, a large kitchen, outdoor courtyard, a formal dining room, a breakfast room, a game room (which featured Nashville’s first bowling alley), two trap doors, and a grand ballroom for 200 guests… the home is deceptively large. Not only was the place amazing but the food was fantastic! I had something different called the “White Marble Farms Bacon “Bacon”“. Essentially it was a pork roast wrapped in bacon and served on a bed of bacon, bean and sweet corn succotash. It was amazing!!!! The owners talked about the history of the Smith House which gave us a unique experience. So if you are in Nashville and looking for a good place for dinner, we highly recommend The Standard.
Caught up with Friends & Family!
We got to see “Dr. Bob” (a friend from our stay at Newmar in Napannee) at the Nashville KOA we stayed at. We will connect with him and his wife again while in Sarasota!
We drove down to Tullahoma to visit my sister and nephew. We had a great time visiting with them. My nephew is a very successful car salesman for the local Ford dealership (Russell Barnett Ford). He always wins Salesman of the Month and we are very proud of him! He is married with 3 great kids and everyone is doing well. My sister is working 2 jobs (she always works hard) and we had a special time going thru a box of pictures and memorabilia of the family that she got from Mom. Some special items including pictures of our father that I thought were gone but she kept them! It was a special time and I really appreciate her doing this for us.
Well that was it for Nashville. We will be back, we just love this place!
