NOLA!

Hurricane note – as of this post we will be in Hattiesburg and Biloxi MS until the end of September so should miss Hurricane Irma!

So NOLA was absolutely our favorite destination so far! Two things contributed to this amazing stay:

  • Our daughter Tori and her friend Katie visited NOLA at the same time!
  • Our guides Austin Funk and his awesome girlfriend Brittany!

We arrived in the middle of heavy rain due to Hurricane Harvey (got the name right this time) but fortunately no flooding! We met with Austin and ate at a great place call Jacque Imo’s. Terrific and unique seafood – we had alligator cheesecake for an appetizer!

Austin brought us back to their apartment (Brittany was out of town) and gave us the grand tour. Very unique apartment that once was a law office. Even had a full size window that opens from the floor – you could then walk out on the balcony and imagine yourself throwing beads on the passing parade!

The Girls’ Awesome Adventure – Escape Room!

The next day had all kinds of rain and flood warnings so I decided to stay with the RV – fortunately nothing happened, it just rained all day. However “The Girls” went to an escape room. Nice adventure on a wet and rainy day. We all had dinner at the Bourbon House so they could tell me all about it! Tori decided to tell me every single detail…. I was exhausted just listening but they had a great time as evident in the picture below:

“The Girls” – Katie, Patti and Tori having way too much fun!

National WWII Historical Museum

In the heart of New Orleans is this huge museum complex. It was amazing! They had vintage tanks, weapons and airplanes in the ceiling! This place had electronic tours and countless individual stories of the real heroes in WWII. Highly recommend the film “Beyond all Boundaries” which is a 4D film covering the entire war – very well done and fascinating. We gravitated to the “Road to Berlin” which guided you thru all of the battles leading up to the fall of Berlin.  We spent 5 hours in the museum and saw about 60% of what they had to offer! Definitely worth going and get there when it opens because it is an all day event!

We spent our last evening with Austin and Brittany at a great burger joint – or dive – called “Port of Call”. They had these huge burgers that 2 people can share and that’s what we did! Great food! It was awesome to finally meet Brittany and hear what she does for a living and what brought her to NOLA! Throughout the evening I kept pointing to Austin and asking her “Why?”! She would always say he was a perfect gentleman and treated her very well. Way to go Austin!

NOLA was great and we could have stayed a lot longer but it was off to Hattiesburg!
