So while we are spending time in Austin (future post will explain why), we decided to drive to San Antonio and visit the Alamo!
The Alamo!
We spent the $30 for both of us to have a guided tour of this historic site. Well worth it! Jesus was our guide and was extremely knowledgeable and answered every question. It was great to have this personal description and view of the site and the battle that took place. We were able to visit a room within the church that the standard visitor could not enter. I was surprised how much of the original structure was still in place with little or no “fixing up”. Now as I say that, this site has been thru multiple changes over the last 150 years.
I was also surprised how downtown San Antonio was built around this site. We were just yards away from the courthouse and downtown hotels. Also the river walk which was awesome and had plenty of shops and restaurants!
We were also blessed by a discussion with Jesus, our guide. He noticed that Patti had heart surgery and asked us to stay after the tour. He told us the story of his wife who just had triple bypass like Patti and wanted some advice to help him work with his wife during the next few weeks of rehab. Patti did a great job in providing some tips and tricks concerning physical activity, diet and how long to rehab before going back to work. Jesus was extremely thankful and all of us were somewhat emotional concerning the subject of the discussion.
So check out the Alamo web site – The Alamo and you can see how cool it was to visit this part of Texas!
