Tulsa OK/Dallas TX

We had short stops in Tulsa OK and Dallas TX so we decided to combine them in one post.

Tulsa OK

Short stop on our way to Dallas but we chose Tulsa for an important visit – Fort Smith AR! Patti’s family on her Father’s side (Lairamore) are based in Fort Smith. For years Patti would tell me stories about her Granny’s house and the famous Lairamore broom shop! Below are pictures of the visit and the broom shop!

The Lairamore Family! Patti is being held by her Father in the upper right hand corner. Patti’s Mother is next to her. Below her Mother is Cheryl and Debbie, two of her sisters (Karen hadn’t come along yet).
The new owners kept the Lairamore name!
A wall remembering the Lairamore Broom company!
More Lairamore Broom memorabilia.
Great newspaper article about the Lairamore Broom company!
Great picture of Patti next to a statue of her Uncle John, master craftsman of the Lairamore broom company!
Patti with a few of the Lairamore cousins!
Patti with her Aunt Peggy!

Dallas TX

We stopped in Dallas for multiple reasons:

  • Register the vehicles.
  • Get our MCD (inside motorized) shades replaced.
  • Most importantly – visit some Everett cousins!

It was time for renewing the registration for our vehicles (RV, Car and Motorcycle). I can do this online, however Texas requires vehicle inspections so we needed to plan this out logistically. So before we parked the RV and settled in, we stopped at a place inspected the RV and car and found a Harley dealership to inspect the motorcycle. Done (until next year)!

Part of getting our MCD shades replaced was staying onsite literally in MCD’s  parking lot in McKinney TX, where they performed the work. They provided electricity but no water or sewer, so we basically “boondocked” during our 3 day stay.  No problem!  With a little meal planning and water conservation, we had ample fresh water to see us through.

MCD makes the motorized remote control shades for our RV. Sometimes they didn’t work and I would have to reprogram the shades and/or replace the motors. I did this so often that the running joke became that I could do this blindfolded and with my toes! (That always made Patti laugh!) For multiple reasons MCD and Newmar issued a recall and replaced all of the motors and remote controls for free! It took them only one day and now it feels like we have a brand new RV. The new remote controls look more modern and all of the shades work perfectly!

While in Texas, Patti’s cousins Ron and Rosemary Everett invited us for dinner with their kids (Willie, Toni and Ronnie and their respective families). It was so great to see everyone again and to meet the spouses and children we hadn’t met yet!  Ron’s father, Arthur, was Marge’s brother (Patti’s Mom).  Ron has a serious Ham Radio hobby and Rosemary is a fantastic cook. Her homecooking never disappoints! About 28 years ago, Patti and I moved to York PA for my job. Ron and Rosemary lived nearby in Harrisburg and they were a big help to us – especially when Tori was born.

Next stop – Central City CO!!!! The Rockys!
